Spanish Doctors on Abortion

The President of Spain's Collegial Medical Association has warned against a new abortion law that allows sixteen-year-olds to seek abortion without parental consent. Juan Jose Rodriguez Sendin reminded reporters that abortion is a "traumatic surgical intervention" and that parents had a right to know what was going on so as to be able to help their own children. He also criticised the Spanish government for ignoring the views of medical experts on this issue.

The Spanish government has acted and continues to act with breathtaking arrogance. It is telling that this law was formulated through the Ministry of Equality not the Ministry of Health, presumably to bypass the very awkward medical professionals who will be expected to carry out the government's dirty work when such offensive laws are passed.
