Chen Guangcheng in New York
Chen Guangcheng the blind Chinese lawyer who has been a courageous advocate for Chinese women and their unborn babies has finally been allowed to leave China with his family. Chen told his supporters and the media when he arrived at Newark airport that he was grateful to the US Embassy and the embassies of France,Canada and Switzerland and especially his friends in the media for their assistance, he also expressed concern for his extended family especially his nephew Chen Kegui. Chen was met by Congressman Chris Smith who told the media, "After years of enduring physical and psychological torture,imprisonment and hate, the man Chen Guangcheng, who defended Chinese women from the crime of forced abortion is finally free". Chen who has accepted a fellowship in New York University will live in lower Manhattan.
